Anoraks Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Who we are
Anoraks is a free daily football quiz at anoraks.app, run by Jamie English, based in Australia ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the site, why, and what you can do about it. You can play without an account, in which case we hold very little about you.
What we collect
| What | When | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | When you sign up | Display name, email address, age range, the club you support, your email choices |
| Game data | When you play while signed in | Your daily scores for each game, completion times, streaks, cup and league results. We don't store your individual guesses |
| Mini-league data | When you create or join a league | League name, members, start date and length |
| Interest and reports | When you tap "Tell me when it's ready" or report a mistake | Which feature you're interested in, the correction you sent |
| Sign-in data | When you sign in with Google | Your name and email address from Google, nothing else |
We don't collect your exact location, contacts or payment details. If you play as a guest, your progress stays in your own browser and isn't sent to us.
Why we use it
We use your information to run the quiz and nothing else. Under UK data protection law, each use needs a reason, called a lawful basis.
| Use | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Running your account, saving scores, leaderboards and mini-leagues | Providing the service you signed up for (contract) |
| Fixing mistakes, preventing abuse, keeping the site secure | Our legitimate interest in a working, fair site |
| Club tables and anonymous totals, such as average scores by club | Our legitimate interest in improving the game |
| Reminder and marketing emails | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
We never sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.
Emails
- Sign-in links: sent whenever you ask to sign in. These are needed to use your account.
- Evening reminders: only if you tick the box. Sent at 7.30pm UK time on days you haven't played yet, at most once a day.
- News about new games and features: only if you tick the box at sign-up. Occasional, never daily.
You can turn reminders and news emails off at any time in your profile, or with the unsubscribe link in any email.
What other players can see
- Public leaderboards: your display name, club, score and completion time.
- Mini-leagues: members of a league you're in can see your display name and your scores in that league.
- Never shown to anyone: your email address and age range.
Your display name can be a nickname. You can change it in your profile.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted services to run the site. They process data only on our instructions.
| Service | What it does | Data it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and sign-in | Account details and game data, stored in London |
| Vercel | Hosts the website | Technical data such as IP addresses in server logs |
| Resend | Sends emails | Your email address and the email content |
| Sign-in, if you choose it | Confirms your name and email address to us |
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, it's protected by the safeguards UK law requires. We'll only share your information with anyone else if the law requires it.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use storage that's needed for the site to work: to keep you signed in, and to save a guest's progress in their own browser. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. If we add privacy-friendly analytics later, we'll update this policy first.
How long we keep it
- Your account and scores: for as long as you have an account. Your history is part of the game.
- Deleted accounts: removed straight away, with backups cleared within 30 days.
- Unused accounts: kept until you delete them, so your history is there whenever you come back.
- Mistake reports: kept until the issue is fixed, then the link to you is removed.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself in your profile:
- Download my data gives you a copy of everything linked to your account.
- Delete my account removes your account, scores and league memberships.
For anything else, email us at the address below. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
You must be 13 or older to create an account. Anyone can play as a guest. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell signed-in players about any significant change before it takes effect.
